Cleopatra: A Life

A new film adaptation of the life of Cleopatra is in “the works”.  Well, not really in the works because without a confirmed director, nothing will be working.  In 2010, there was a buzz that James Cameron was approached with the dream project.  Now, it appears that Ang Lee, the director of the critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated film, Life of Pi, has been offered the gig.  Although he has not accepted the job as of yet, he has said. “The project looks very attractive.”

Looking at how Lee transformed Life of Pi into a visual masterpiece, I can’t imagine what he would do to the likes of Cleopatra: A Life.   Although the last adaptation of Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, was the highest grossing film of 1963, it was not critically acclaimed in the least.  It would be very interesting to see how he could improve upon it.

One aspect of this venture which has been confirmed is the star, Angelina Jolie.  This star power alone is enough to whet the appetites of theater goers as they await the development of Cleopatra: A Life.

How do you feel about the casting of Angelina Jolie as Cleopatra?  What about Ang Lee as the director?  And if these two do work together on this project, did you notice the name play? ANGelina JoLIE? I’m just saying…

Very interesting indeed. I happen to think she would make a great queen but there are a coupke of up and coming actresses who might vie fir this title. Big undertakibg by both.
